What happens after you die?
What do you see?
Where do you go?
"Well, Dad," said Mike, "seeing that you will eventually join me here on this side of the great Divide, let's talk about the process of death from your point of view first."
There are three ways of moving into our world from yours. The first is to come as I did, with the violence of an abrupt end. The second is to come, as a result of the body breaking down, for example, from illness―or old age.
The third way, the logical way, is to come to us with a full and conscious understanding of why it is happening.
Now I know that the third way rang a bell in your mind, so let's discuss it here and now.
For a start, the soul that inhabits your body operates like a system of electrical impulses. Most people call it the etheric body. The New Testament agrees that the human personality does survive the barrier of death.
The Master Jesus Himself revealed His etheric body to His disciples. He even showed them the nail holes in His hands, remember?
In other words, He recreated His earthly body out of etheric matter―out of the electric impulses, which had activated the flesh-and-blood body. Being a Master, He was enlightened enough to do so, for a Master has full control of all the energy levels on the earth and can bend them all to His will.
"I often marvel at His humility, when He was hanging on the cross, allowing Himself to be thrown from that life into this one, when all the might of Heaven was at His command! By the flick of a finger, He could have unleashed powers unknown to (hu)man! Yet He let them do to Him what they would even though they subjected His physical body to unspeakable torture. When I think of the example of the Master,"
I regret I did not study His teaching a bit more intelligently when I was on earth.
It's only when you arrive here that you realise how His teachings have been twisted to suit the ends of (wo)men, including His attitude to the process of dying.
When the Bible says the silver cord is severed and the golden bowl is broken, it uses precise and clear-cut language.
When you're asleep, your soul can travel to these planes where I exist, but it maintains contact with your mortal body by a thin luminous thread, which the Bible calls the Silver Cord. This anchors the soul to the body until the need for sleep has been satisfied.
"Sometimes, a recollection of the soul's journey filters down this silver cord to the mind of the sleeper in the form of a very vivid dream. But the human mind is fallible, having been conditioned since childhood to certain watertight beliefs, and so the message transmitted by the silver cord can become garbled and incoherent.
Sometimes, when the soul observes its own body on the earth doing something contrary to Divine Will, it lashes the physical conscience into such ferocious nightmares that the poor sleeper is terrified into recalling the soul to his body. An awakening in a cold sweat of terror follows."
When death comes, the process is exactly the same, except that when the soul detaches itself from the body, the silver cord is severed completely. That is the beginning and the end of the mechanics of death.
"There are, of course, a few minor conditions involved. Firstly, no soul can ever pass over into these worlds unless it has given its consent, and here, I don't mean conscious consent because the conscious mind is only a minor extension of the soul."
The conscious mind may assume that death is approaching, but it is the soul itself that must give its consent before the process can take place.
"Imagine, Dad, that you are an old man with reasonable faith in your Creator. You have been a fairly good Christian all your life, trying to live the laws, as they were laid down by the Master Jesus. Admittedly, you broke them when the temptation became too great, but you feel in your own mind that the great One will forgive your run-of-the-mill transgressions."
That would be your first mistake.
There is no judging when you pass over into our world. As I said before, your soul vibrates at a certain rate, and when it passes over, it will vibrate at a similar rate here.
"If you have lived a deceitful life on earth, your soul vibrations will be very sluggish―you will go to a low plane here on which your fellows will be similar to you in mind and deed."
You can imagine the infighting, which goes on among such people!
You meet the application of the law—As ye sow, so shall ye reap.
But the actual act of dying is as simple as dozing off after lunch.
"A drowsy feeling fills the whole of your body with relaxing comfort. You can still see with your earthly eyes the room about you. Then you notice that there are all kinds of new people standing around your bed―people that you once knew, such as parents, a favourite uncle, a friend who passed over many years sooner—the joy of seeing them again takes your mind off everything else."
"They take you by the hand and lift you to your feet. This invariably causes you to look back at the bed, and to your surprise, you―or your mortal shell are still lying there. You say aloud—But how can I be here with you people and yet still be lying there on the bed? Only then do you realise that this is death."
So now you are taken by your friends to the world where you now belong.
"As you move out of the room together, you pass through what appears to be a fog―or mist. It is not dense―you can see for about six feet ahead of you, and because you know and love the people you are with, you follow them gladly.
This mist is caused by the dispersing of your etheric body, which has served as the guardian of your material body.
The etheric body, now that death has intervened, leaves the material body and seeks to attach itself to the soul. But as you move up towards the rarer planes, the etheric matter cannot follow, so it forms the mist, which obscures your vision for a few seconds.
When you step out of the mist, the etheric matter returns to the Universal Reservoirs."
"The silver cord and the golden bowl" are merely symbolic words, signifying the end of the earth experience.
Nature wraps you in a blanket of sleep―a person, even if he is terrified of dying, merely falls asleep.
In his sleep, he dreams that he is still in the same room, but, actually, he is passing to our golden world.
Believe me, Dad, it is ten times more dangerous and unpleasant to be born into your world than it is to leave it! Being born is a painful, risky process, and none of us contemplates it with any degree of pleasure.
And yet all you people on the earth fear death.
I feared it when I was there, the few times I did think of it, which were very, very few!
Now let us deal with the conscious passing over of someone who is familiar with the process of death.
There are very few such people in the Western world today, for they are mostly advanced souls who only returned to your earth to perform a specific task―to bring about an advance in thought―or encourage a particular philosophy.
When the time comes for them to return to their proper realm, they do so, believe me, with the utmost relief and joy! They tidy up their earthly affairs, and then, unhurriedly, ask for the blessings of the great One, and simply lift out of their bodies and come straight to the plane where they belong.
Nothing could be simpler or more benign.
"The third means of passing over is as I did. Remember Dad, although my conscious mind didn't know I was about to return here, my soul did. Three days before the accident, I knew somehow subconsciously that my earth life was coming to a close. My actual passing, I have already described to you. Both Heather and I were lifted out of our bodies before the collision. There was no pain―no shock.
This process is the same in all and every form of violent death. If it appears violent from your end, believe me, it is only from your end, never from ours!
"In the case of the rather backward soul, we place him into a deep torpor as soon as we take charge. When he arrives in this world, he wakes in what appears to him to be a hospital ward. The realisation filters to him that he is safe and being well looked after―then it gradually dawns on him that there are no doctors and nurses in this hospital―no bandages and no surgical instruments. He himself feels no pain―so his next move is to get out of bed and start exploring to find out what sort of hospital this is. Only then does he realise that he has successfully passed over."
It is wonderful to watch his amazement and relief when he realises he is more alive than ever.
"It takes some time, quite some time, for all this to register completely―often, his first reaction is to go back to bed, for another couple of days, to get used to the idea of what has happened to him! Then one of the elders visits him and answers all the unasked questions in his mind. You see, the laws of creation are not as easily grasped by these backward souls as they are by their more experienced brothers.
"By the same token, if there is not enough love in the heart of the new arrival here, his ability to adapt to a world that operates on love is likewise backward, which is a good thing because the first thing he would do would be to create weapons and then use them to establish power over his fellow souls!
"Not that they can hurt one another―their new bodies are indestructible―so when they finally realise the futility of picking up a club and bopping a neighbour over the head with it, they feel very hard done by. But they end up realising that they will only win by living in peace with their fellows.
Gradually, (and you can watch the idea taking hold), unselfish gestures emerge, and finally, the texture of the soul purifies itself enough to enable them to reach a clearer, more harmonious plane, and as things become clearer still, so do they advance to even more evolved planes.
