The bright spirits of the higher spheres are watching and working for you when a chance is open to them. But it is hard for them to reach you.
If they do approach, some unholy desire, some bad passion that rules in you, attracts to it spirits of its own class, and the higher influences are shut off.
You must work for yourself if you expect high spirits to help you.
You must crucify the flesh with its lusts, cultivate the affections, seek to rise to a level that will bring you into rapport with the powers above who can aid you so efficiently. If you do not choose to make this effort, spirits will have to take the work into their own hands.
The earth must be relieved, and the light of the higher spheres must penetrate to do this, for although the power of low spirits may be great, the power of the higher ones is infinitely greater, and they can do what they purpose.
No power of theirs—or spirits of the lower sphere can stop them in their work.
But they would that you should aid and assist them, as by so doing, much of the misery and ruin that must fall on individuals would be averted.
The times are rife for change.
Excitement marches at this epoch—all feel that something is impending. An unsettled, unstable feeling is abroad, and no one seems to know what a day may bring forth.
This is the work of spirits—they have stirred up these elements of change.
Vice reigns supreme. Injustice and oppression bear sway, and you have forgotten the teachings of His beautiful creed—
The religion of creed—the religion of Christ—
You are worshipping Mammon, luxury, and degrading vices in all forms. When things have progressed to this pitch of iniquity, a change must come.
The atmosphere must be cleansed of such pollution and a scourge will be found to punish the guilty.
The spirit messengers do not warn to frighten you—
While there is yet time, examine into your own case, and then try to amend what is wrong in yourself.
Much good may be done in this way even now though the evil is too widespread, for the punishment to be evaded altogether.—John the Apostle In Spirit
