Glimmerings of Spiritual Things (or The Deep Things of God)
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
―1 Corinthians 2:10 (New King James Version)
No one gives up his earthly life for nothing―
You only change from one state of existence to another, and go on evolving in the spirit world.
You do not change when you come over here [in the world of spirits].
Time, in the world of spirits, is not quite the same thing as on earth―it is all today, so-to-speak.
You make or mar your own life. All your actions have their inevitable consequences.
You make your own heaven and your own hell―
There is no question of reward or punishment. Whatever your condition may be in the next life, you have earned it through your life on earth.
The idea that God punishes is utterly illogical.
How can an All-wise God be angry with creatures so infinitely below him in development? This false teaching has made the great truth of God’s overwhelming love for all his creatures almost impossible to accept.
God delights in the happiness of His creatures.
The prayer of a living soul on earth for those in the spirit world is wonderfully powerful.
God is everybody's friend and no one's judge―you judge yourself by your actions.
Love and prayer are the mighty means to an almighty end.
The only thing that counts is love.
Reincarnation is a fact, but it is a general plan and not a universal law.
There would be no sense in sending a soul to incarnate time after time if that soul had already learnt in one incarnation all the lessons that earth life had to teach.
Get rid of that horrible word ghosts―it conveys an utterly false impression. You are not like a shadowy bit of cloud, blowing about all over the place.
You are nothing of the kind.
You are still you, with a body, feelings and affections, and intelligence, living an ordered and busy life, but in different conditions and methods from life on earth.
The spirit world is all around you, just like the material world, and someday you will be advanced enough to see it.
Make love the keynote of your life.
Life is so ordinary and natural in the world of spirits. You would not exchange it for anything for life on earth.
Death does not end things―it is only the beginning of a really splendid life.
There is a cause and reason for everything, and you are being given the answers to a great deal that puzzles you on earth. You are told that you are not made up of many particles of matter that perish at the death of the physical body, but that you have three bodies, each of which is composed of certain atoms that become finer and finer as your several bodies develop. These different bodies have different work to do, and each develops on different lines.
Your physical body is given to you, as a shell or covering for the other two, and when you die, you leave that body behind you, as you would a worn-out suit of clothes―you have no further use for it.
The astral or spiritual body is exactly like the physical body, as far as appearance goes, but it is made up of much finer atoms and has some very marked differences. You do not have any internal organs like those you had on earth, so you do not need any ordinary food.
All the food you want you absorb from the atmosphere around you. You have teeth in your mouth, but that is because to all appearances you are the same as on earth, but they never give you any trouble and no one wants a dentist here. Then the next great difference is the way in which you can hear and see things, although you may not be in the place where they are happening, not only in the present, but later on when you are more developed, the past and future.
There are some people on earth who have that power now to a limited degree, but here everyone has it to an unlimited degree.
I am longing for the time when I shall be allowed to see backwards and forwards!
Your present body, which some people describe as astral is the counterpart of your physical one, but without certain of their limitations. You will have this body for a very, very long time, and then you will drop it, as you did your earth body, and wear the third body, which is called the mental body.
Losing your astral body is a kind of death, but with nothing terrifying or painful about it.
You are purged, as with fire, but it does not mean burning, as we understand it on earth. When you wear your mental body, you will have become an advanced spirit and be able to do very much more difficult work and have infinitely more power of all kinds.
You have much to learn before you may wear that body.
You walk about your home in the world of spirits. It is only when you want to travel that you propel yourself, so-to-speak.
Our Master Christ is worthy of the highest honour that can be paid to Him on earth. Although He is not the Almighty God Himself, He is the fullest manifestation of him that has appeared.
You can always ask him to help you, and He always will.
You are being taught now about the result of your actions on earth and the effect they have on your life in the spirit world. Many would simply laugh at the idea because they would use that utterly wrong expression―Christ died for your sins and you are saved by His blood. It is all wrong, every word of it, it is the fundamental mistake of the Christian Church.
You alone are responsible in the world of spirits and on earth.
You have had the perfect example of a perfect life given to you by the Master Christ when He was on earth in the body of Jesus the Carpenter. That was an important fact―not the death of the disciple on the cross, but the life of the Master on earth in the body of that disciple.
Each time you do or think anything deliberately wrong, you make a consequence, which you have got to pay for.
Not only do you have to become sorry for what you did, but you have got to make up to the person you wronged in deed or thought, for the injury that you did him. This is an unalterable law and is not subject to restrictions like reincarnation.
It is most important that you should make reparation on earth if you can―it is much harder to do so in the spirit world and that is why some suffer so much. On the other hand, you are given the good consequences of good actions and kind thoughts and words.
You understand how much the little things go towards making or marring your life in the spirit world, as well as your earthly life. This is an essential truth of spiritual teaching.
The great Master Christ was once an ordinary man.
You have no idea what consequences can come from thought alone. Your thoughts are very important and influence others in ways unknown to them. Always think kindly of others―it makes a difference in your spiritual growth.
God is Perfect Love and Perfect Wisdom, not a being of like parts and passions as yourself, but of infinitely higher nature. He is the Essence of Being―all creation has its origin in him.
The Almighty God is a perfectly Pure Spirit. There never was a time when God did not exist―God is, always has been, and always will be.
All sin and suffering are a result of your own actions, past and present. You suffer for your actions, so that you may ultimately conquer all your lower instincts and become worthy to be called the sons and daughters of God.
No one is responsible for anybody else except in the way of example.
Unselfishness is the kernel of everything to do with real Christianity.
Everything on earth is a reflection of life in the world of spirits, and that makes the world of spirits the real one and earth the shadowy one.
The happier you are, the better you are serving God.
One gloomy person can infect a whole household like a disease. It is your duty to be as happy as you can, even when things are looking their blackest.
