In performing these duties, you are prepared for more advanced and progressive work.
You are governed by immutable laws, which, if you transgress them, work misery and loss―which, also, if respected secure advancement and satisfaction.
You are the recipient of guidance from spirits who have trod the path before you, and who are commissioned to guide you.
You have within you a standard of right, which will direct you to the truth if you will allow yourself to be guided to keep and protect it from injury.
If you refuse this help, you fall into transgression and deterioration.
You are thrown back, and find misery, in place of joy.
Your sins punish themselves.
You know your duties by the instinct of your spirit, and the spirit grows and gains newer and fuller views, which make for perfect, satisfying joy and peace.
This earthly existence is only a fragment of life.
Its deeds and their results remain when the body is dead.
The ramifications of wilful sin have to be followed out, and its results remedied in sorrow and shame.
The consequences of good deeds are similarly permanent, and precede the pure soul, drawing around it influences, which welcome and aid it in the spheres.
