Is the conscience a gift from God?

We are strange creatures! 

But why should we unman ourselves? 

Why not exercise the Divine gift of reason and be guided by its decisions? 

Is not conscience, the divine part, forever seeking to check us in our foolish, wayward course? 

And how often do our angel guardians whisper the truth in accents kind and low into our ears! 

And still we do not reason, conscience and the voice of the guardian angel are set at nought and we become the abject slave of our passions.
