What goes first after death?

You must learn to live in the spiritual world, as the infant in the physical world. 

At first, all is received as by little children, but afterwards, it is different—you assert your individuality and seek what you desire. If good, you seek good, but if not, you seek evil. 

Death does not change you—you always bring with you, yourself or your character.
