There are no evident signs of piety or holiness or even of religiosity to be seen in the spirit world, nor do spirits go about quoting scripture or other uplifting texts to one another and behaving in a thoroughly unnatural manner. In brief, spirits are not living in a religious institution or a religious world as a whole, but in a sane, sensible world of incomparable beauty where they can work and play as they wish and laugh to their heart’s content, and where, moreover—this is vitally important—where they can be themselves and not be as others on earth would mistakenly have them to be.
