The spirit body is composed of spirit matter, which is unlike our matter by reason of its being more pliable and yielding and being capable of being compressed into a small space without affecting the spirit who inhabits this body [the spirit body is not the spirit]. Spirit or soul merely dwells in the spirit body, which retains its form throughout all eternity. The spirit body is dependent on the mind for its food. Should the brain, which is the organ of the mind, suffer and become impaired, the mind cannot develop and the growth of the spirit body is also impaired. Just as a richly clothed man appears to spirits as a pauper in rags if his spiritual wants had been neglected, so also a person whose mind had been starved appears to them like a wretched, undersized being, dwarfed in his spirit body, though to himself he doubtless seems to be a full grown man.
