What is the law of retributive justice?

If you learned to hold your wealth as a trust given to you to do all the good within your power—

If living yourself moderately and soberly, you used it to benefit and relieve others less fortunately situated, you never could experience these sad reverses. Where you are willing to distribute your surplus means to your poorer neighbour, when you who have possessed wealth are suddenly deprived of it, some other would be ready to supply your needs and do for you, as you have so long done for others.

This is the law of retributive justice that should obtain on the earth and of which angels are trying to show the advantage.
