Experience has confirmed to me what I taught of ideas, that the thought of a thing is the reality, and not the thing observed. Now I do not mean to say that the thing observed is not the tangible thing. Mark ye, I say the reality.
I mean to say that things are susceptible to change, but the idea is permanent. The permanency of ideas is the whole basis of memory.
